Get ready, Get Ready, Get Ready, on your mark, get set, and Go! Finally, we are off and running with the 2018 racing season! Mother Nature has been a bit stubborn with the outdoor weather so far this year. Her current pattern provides a great Thursday but then she reminds us we don’t control the weather she does. Even this past Saturday, when we arrive at the track the truck temperature indicates 61 degrees, but like she has been so far this year Mother Nature started dropping the temperatures, but she could not extinguish the heated racing enthusiasm of the racers and the race fans!
Eighty-seven racers came to compete in the opening night events! Race fans came bundled, extra coats, blankets, winter weather gear, and concession folks prepared extra coffee and hot chocolate, and the 2018 race season was off and running. Yes, we were racing and starting an hour early only helped, but then again so did the heated Trackside Bar and Grill. Thank you, racers and race fans for coming out, bringing your racing enthusiasm (and your warm coverings) and showing Mother Nature we are ready for racing weather!
This year instead of this being a race recap this will be more of a behind the scenes article. Let’s start with what is new at the race track. First our announcers, Mark Merrell comes to us with experience as an MRN announcer and working with young Jacob Blair, they provide us a great pair. Already we experienced the teamwork of Mark calling play by play and Jacob providing the color commentary as a racer himself explaining what is going through a driver’s mind and how the racetrack changes throughout the night. You possibly have seen their awesome video work on our Facebook page, I-35 Speedway Winston?
Still in the personnel department, we have a couple of new officials, Marty Dawson formerly of the front gate has moved into an official role on the track and Mike Hillyard, who joined our team late last year has taken over the lineup official role. Welcome aboard gentlemen!
Also, if you have not noticed the United States of America Flag is everywhere! Along with several new billboards of our sponsors, there is a flag on each billboard. We believe in our country and we are thankful for the freedoms we have, to enjoy this great sport! Thank you, all veterans and first responders! Just a hint but in the future, you might want to know the exact count of flags on the facility, you never know when it might be good for a free something.
New, new, new, the tenderloin at the Track Side Bar and Grill. I have heard people rave about this tenderloin. As soon as Mother Nature allows we will also have an announcement on a surprise addition to the menu the children will love, let’s just say it starts with snow. We will also soon be announcing a new addition to the race program we are sure the fans will enjoy and has not been in the area for decades so follow us on this page, in the race program, on our Facebook page and our website, www.i-35speedway.net, but you must wait until we make the formal announcement.
On your mark, get set, go the season is off and running, make your plans to be at I-35 Speedway every Saturday for the rest of the season for some super-hot fun!
