Hot diggity! Great fun at I-35 Speedway this past Saturday! Some of the best racing anywhere, the Rick Beebe Heating and Cooling Smokin Hot Summer Series brought to us by Prime Racing is exactly what the name implies Smokin Hot! Superb edge of your seat racing in all the classes this past Saturday! The best of the best in the USRA classes are in competition at I-35 Speedway.   Four of the top 20 in national USRA B Mod points were racing this past Saturday, Andy Bryant, Chase Galvan, Luke Niemann and Daniel Harris. Six of the Top 30 USRA A Mod drivers in the nation were at I-35 Speedway in competition, Mark Dotson, Derrick Hicks, Mark Schafman, Dennis Elliott, and the Johnson Brothers, Houston and Austin. In the USRA stock car class three of the national top 25 were racing with Kevin Anderson, Brett Heeter, and Jeff Dixon. Thank you to everyone who is a part of making this Smokin Hot Summer Series a great midseason several nights of fun!

Speaking of fun, the Power Wheel racers were in competition. Watching our youth compete and learn from their early years will ensure our sport has a great future. The Romesburg family does a great job of organizing these events! Thank you!

More fun was the First Annual Asphalt Racers Reunion. It was such a huge success the second annual event is already on the schedule for next year with more pre-race activities planned. There were 42 former asphalt racers in attendance who competed at either I-70 or Lakeside Speedways. This event brought excitement back to some of the racers and they are even thinking of putting together a truck series and come race on the local dirt tracks. What a huge success this event is when we are getting racers back on the track no matter what the racing surface might be!

I heard from several of these former racers how impressed they were with I-35 Speedway! Numerous former drivers commented on the cleanliness, organization, and how well-kept the Speedway grounds are maintained! A couple of racers even commented on how one race leaves the track the next race is pulling on the track, something they liked from when they raced! They also were impressed on the staff friendliness! Thank you staff you represent I-35 Speedway very well!

We want to thank Vicki Davis for organizing the Asphalt Racers Reunion. Vicki is a tireless worker supporting our sport! She organized the Gary Davis Stock Car race in June and now the Asphalt Racers Reunion. Remember her efforts come awards time in the fall – Central Auto Racing Boosters, in fact take this as my nomination for the J. O. “Pop” Hartman Award!

Finally, let’s close this week with our favorite Facebook post of the week and it comes from Phillip Wilson, “Hats off to the drivers. Seen some great racing before I had to leave early. Congrats to all the winners and points leaders”.
