Another week of racing another week Mother Nature is involved. Overnight Friday night/Saturday morning the track received 3 inches of rain. The forecast was a high of 93 and a late chance of rain Saturday night/Sunday morning. Thanks to the great track prep each week, the 3 inches of rain was just saving Mike Knight from watering. The cloudy skies kept the temperatures in the mid-80s and allowed for a great night of racing or so we thought. We were able to get in all the heat races, celebrate with the Kaster family on Kaster Celebration Night, and complete two feature events, the E-Mods, congrats Anthony Asher, and in the Hobby Stocks, congrats Mich Ross.

We also want to mention Joan Ellis and David McMaster, from sponsor Seeburg Muffler, were in attendance. It is always great to have our sponsors in attendance and as you look around the track give these folks your business as they support our great sport! Speaking of sponsors they are lining up to help out with the 6th annual Show-Me Spectacular, an open wheel show with five classes, the A Mod, B Mod, E Mod, Non Wing Sprint Cars, and the Midwest Outlaw Lightning Sprints. This event will be held on October 10. If you know of anyone who would like to help sponsor this event please contact Mike Johnson or advise someone with the track.

Now back to Mother Nature – almost everyone has a cell phone with a radar application. We all were watching the storms encircle the track. The issue is always when to make the call, when to cancel the races? Making this decision is always tough, in the old days you raced until it rained, but we could all see it coming. It is best to get everyone out of the track before the storms hit, let the racers get loaded safely, let the fans get out of the parking lots before they become a mud pit! We were also in constant communication with dispatch of Daviess County as the Ambulance crew has a radio and was keeping the race director informed of the weather warnings and alerts. When the report came over the radio lightning was 13 miles from the track it was time to call the event complete, and make plans for the remaining features to be completed at another time.

Starting this weekend, Kids Night, the Grand Nationals and B Mods will begin the night completing their feature events from July 25. On August 8 the MLS and Stock Cars will run their July 25 races and the A Mods will complete their July 25 feature on August 15.

Also this weekend we want to welcome Donn Harrison, Top Teacher for 2015 as presented on Live with Kelly and Michael from Parkview Elementary in Cameron, Missouri. Donn and his family will be helping hand out school supplies to the kids. All children in attendance will receive a backpack filled with school supplies in preparation for the new school year beginning.

Our goal at I-35 Speedway each week is for everyone to have a great night of fun!
