Six weeks into the 2016 Racing Season I-35 Speedway has continued to have huge success with car count. Week six saw the pits loaded with 9 Show Me Vintage Cars, 14 Wingless Auto Racing Sprint Cars, 22 E Mods, 13 Pure Stocks (a rapidly growing class), 5 Chargers, 18 B Mods, 12 Stock Cars, and 11 USRA A Mods for a total car count of 104 racecars. This led to 16 heat races and 8 feature events. At I-35 Speedway the fans always get the most racing for their money.

We even did things a little different this week. The Show Me Vintage were first with the WAR Sprints running second, this allows the drivers who travel to race with us the furthest to get on the road home even sooner. An added benefit is the large tires help roll in the track quicker and make for a super smooth racing surface all night long. Additionally, with Mother Nature dealing us a chilly night in Mid-May we moved the trophy presentations to the end of the night allowing the race fans to enjoy all the races and head home before the true chill of the night took effect.

Let’s take a quick look behind the scenes of stories that might have been missed:

• Last week we may have jinxed 3D E Mod driver Matt Dorssom. Prior to this night he had always completed the E Mod redraw and was within the first two rows, on this night he did not make the Top 8 in passing points out of the heat race, so he started 11th on the field and drove to second place.
• The best of the best continue to grace I35 Speedway in the B Mod class. This race night saw a battle between Trevor Hunt and eventual winner Shadren Turner. Turner gained ground on Hunt running the high line and when he pulled even down the back straight, Hunt used his USMTS experience and pull a slide job taking away Turner’s line. Three straight laps of this and Turner was ready making the cross over move out of turn 4 and beating Hunt in a drag race to the checkered flag. Great racing by two obviously highly talented drivers!
• Former class Champion Austin Johnson drove the 154 Charger car in a return to the class.
• Another format change, the 50/50 tickets can be purchased by our ticket hawker walking through the stands or at the Beer Shack. The drawing will be held in front of the race fans preceding the last feature of the night.

Casey Burnett’s win in the E Mods makes four different winners in the six nights of racing. We have also had four different winners in the A Mods, three in the Charger and Pure Stock classes, two different winners in the Stock Car class but we look for this to change as this is one of the most competitive fields of stock cars in the racing area. None of those classes top the B Mods so far this year as we have yet to see a repeat winner. Six nights of racing in the B Mods has led to six different winners.

This week is Timberline Trading Night at the Races, one of our newest sponsors for this year. They buy standing timber. Thank you Timberline Trading and thank you race fans for patronizing our sponsors.
