As the racing season closes down there are a few specials to catch. The Sunflower Showdown at Lakeside Speedway, four days of racing, four days of excitement. As I write this we have reached the half-way point. Local classes the Grand Nationals, the Factory Stock/Stock Cars, and the B Mods have put on exciting racing – congrats to Gary Donaldson on his close win over Bud Wilson, congrats to Brad Smith the current king of the B Mods, and congrats to Brett Heeter.
The mixture of various stock car rules shows we are not far from unifying this class. Maybe variation and less rules governing specific parts can allow all to compete equally. It was great seeing Lakeside Factory Stocks compete with IMCA and USRA Stock Cars. Several of the tech officials met years ago to work on this rule package and did not accomplish our stated goal. The answer appears to lie in more general rules with the racers cost being at the fore front of rulemaking.
Late Models meet up with the USRA Modifieds to bring action the next two nights. This is always exciting racing. So make plans to be there. Tickets are still available.
Next week the 3rd Annual McCarthy Show Me Spectactular will be held at I-35 Speedway. Again it will be a chance for the various rules of Stock Car racing to meet and the same with the USRA B Mod/IMCA Sport Mods. These shows are designed to give everyone an opportunity to race for season ending cash and take a chance on trying out a new racetrack. So drivers before you put those cars away for the off season, take a chance and compete. Plan now to be at I-35 Speedway on October 12th.
