Lakeside Speedway had two race dates this past weekend. The first a weekly Friday night race did not occur due to Mother Nature for the second weekend in a row (3 out of the last 4). The Saturday show was the Wild West Shootout, a motorcycle race. The track was leased for this event. The highlight was the giveaway of the Harley Davidson during intermission of the second show. Thank you Worth Harley Davidson! We appreciate your support of our track.
Now with that stated, yes, as a track we were disappointed in the motorcycle turn out. However, there are a couple of more people we need to thank. Thank you to the amateur divisions which desired to provide a show for our fans. The pro division left after the first show. Thank you to Mike and Kyle Johnson for scheduling a different form of racing at Lakeside, it was exciting to see the motorcycles dive into the turns and to race side by side lap after lap. Additionally, everyone in attendance was allowed to take their ticket and attend the races at I-35 Speedway that night.
Speaking of I-35 Speedway, it was another night with 91 racecars in attendance. The switch from IMCA sanctioning to USRA sanctioning has definitely helped this track. The racing was exciting in all the classes on the super smooth track. Those of us working at Lakeside were able to leave and catch most of the feature events. Several drivers who normally race Lakeside only were in attendance desiring to get in some laps. They thoroughly enjoyed the racing and who knows, maybe more drivers will be participating in the Border War money paid out to drivers who race both nights at Lakeside and I-35.
Speaking of USRA we hope you are gearing up and planning to be part of the first annual USRA Nationals on October 1, 2, 3, and 4. Late Models will join the racing on Friday and Saturday, October 3 and 4. Tickets and reserved seating are available by contacting the officer at 913-299-9206. USRA Hobby Stocks, B Mods, Stock Cars, and A Mods will be coming from various states to compete. The pits are expected to full of race cars from all over the country. It will be a great week of racing inconjuction with the races at Kansas Speedway.
