Week 3 Recap – Lakeside and I-35 Speedways
A superb weekend of racing was completed at the two sisters tracks. Lakeside Speedway hosted the USRA Ironman B Mods and Stock Cars along with the USMTS Modifieds and the Grand Nationals. The grandstands were rockin with the excitement of these classes and they were not disappointed. Great side by side racing occurred in the all classes. Most of this great action is because of two men who work behind the scenes each week making sure the track is properly prepped. Everyone, fans, drivers, pit crews, should give props to the two Mikes, Mike Johnson one of the owners and Mike Knight.
I-35 Speedway hosted open wheel sprint car racing along with a race against the weather. It is never fun to race weather, on those nights everyone gets in a hurry and the more we hurry the worse some drive. Fortunately, all the races were completed and everyone was leaving when the rain came. The sprint car crowd followed the sprint cars and the sprint drivers put on a great show. The non wing sprints looked natural on the I35 Speedway banks.
Car counts at both tracks have continued to rise. More and more drivers are finishing their cars and making it to the racetracks. This past week we welcome back longtime racer Jim Adkins and his number 5 Grand National. Jim and his wife Angie have been part of the racing scene for several years, as competitors, as fans, as car owners, and as pit crew.
The Border War money continues, Yancy Shephard collected the $75 in the B Mod class, by finishing second at Lakeside in the B Mods and then coming to I35 Speedway to race on Saturday night.
Did you know both racetracks have suites? Lakeside, when available, has suite tickets for $20 or the entire suite for $400 for the night. I35 Speedway has suite which cost $18.00 and can be upgraded if you get too warm or too cold, depending on the season. Along with the I35 Suite there is always the Trackside Bar and Grill where you can grab a bite or a drink.
That’s a wrap for week 3 now on to week 4.
